This backboard seems to be well designed. It is light, though we haven't put it in the water yet...seems it would be buoyant, but not too much to slide it under a patron/victim in the water. The handholds are large, and the pins are well placed and easy to connect quick-connect-snap straps. We used a generic head immobilizer, easy to set up...the design at the head-end allows different types. We didn't want to use the pop-in head base 'cause it is specific to this board, instead we wanted something that could be used interchangeably with other boards. The runner(s) is really a molded shelf on the bottom, which should provide good stability, better ease in a rescue, and keep straps from rubbing on concrete etc. The foot-end has a slight declination downwards. Okay, but not sure if that would really help in a water rescue, it is just a design feature. Light As Air Boats was extremely good with the ordering and delivery, and worked with me to minimize shipping costs.
To finalize, though a bit more expensive than other boards out there, this appears to be well-designed for water rescues, though we haven't put it through its training paces yet. I think the staff will be very pleased. Last thought...hope we never have to use it.
