SOTAR is a family run, custom whitewater inflatable boat manufacturer based in Merlin, Oregon in the USA. Every boat is built by hand and made one at a time. Started in 1980 and SOTAR is still flourishing 40 years later.
SOTAR’s specialty is giving white water sports lovers a boat that is custom designed to personal specifications. Color options are not the only options available. You can change design specs to fit the rivers you run and the specialized use of a raft, cataraft, or inflatable kayak.
The ST was the first all-welded cataraft. It was also the first design to use the revolutionary continuous curve tube shape. Each inflatable is designed with specific features for different whitewater characteristics. The continuous curve, when compared to the Legend cat, is flatter and will cut through waves versus kicking the bow up. The kick-up on the Legend is excellent for pulling out of big drops.

First designed in 1990, SOTAR’s continuous curve Cat design has become an industry standard. By eliminating all cross-miter seams, we decreased drag and increased performance. The continuous curve design allows SOTAR to gradually change the shape of the tube throughout the tube length. With this ability and our experience, we have fine-tuned this shape to optimize speed, quickness, and load-carrying capacity.Â
