Why Buy From Light As Air Boats

Your next sea adventure awaits with this versatile and durable Gumotex SEAWAVE 14'11" Inflatable Kayak.

The Gumotex SEAWAVE 14'11" is an excellent versatile touring kayak. Because of its long narrow shape, it glides in the water making it a very fast and easy to control boat. It can be converted from a three-person version into a two-person or one-person kayak by moving the seats. Installation of an optional deck makes it a great sea kayak convenient for cruising in rough sea conditions, i.e. with swell and waves generated by a force of 3 to 6 winds (provided that its paddlers have sufficient experience and technique to do so). Aluminum reinforcements support the deck and stiffen the kayak’s hull. The floor features a pronounced keel for better tracking.

For 70 years, Gumotex has been perfecting the art of crafting inflatable kayaks that are as gentle on nature as they are on paddlers. Their kayaks are not just a product; they're a legacy of innovation and dedication to preserving the environment. Handcrafted with precision from natural rubber, each kayak is a testament to their commitment to sustainability. Gumotex Inflatable Kayaks are designed to be lightweight, making them easy to pack and carry, whether you're heading out for a weekend adventure or an extended expedition.

    Features

    ☑ NITRILON®
Material composition: high-strength PES fabric (1) with an outer synthetic rubber coating (2) and inner natural rubber blend coating (3). The material is highly resistant to abrasion, aging, and UV light. Tensile strength min.3 000/3 000 N (sample 8 × 2 in). Minimum weight 27.13 oz/yd².

    ☑ TRACKING FIN HELPS TO
    STEER COURSE
The tracking fin makes it much easier to control the kayaks. Ensuring the boat tracks well and maintains good directional stability.
Featured on THAYA, RUSH, TWIST, SWING, SOLAR, FRAMURA, SEAWAVE, SEASHINE, SAFARI 330 and HALIBUT kayaks

    A curved hull
Seawave is one of a few inflatable kayaks featuring a pronounced, unyielding curvature under the side tubes. This is the key element in the shape of the hull: it enables the SEAWAVE to climb waves and/or swell, without just bumping into or passing through, but instead following the wave’s ascending or descending line with fluidity, without losing the speed generated by the paddler(s). This curvature is determined by the assembly angle, hand-made during the production, with a constraint maintaining the longitudinal curvature of the two air chambers.
    ☑ High voluminous Bow
A high voluminous bow acts as a „plough-spreader“ and together with the volume and high buoyancy has the direct effect of raising the kayak quickly over the waves.
The 40 cm rocker at the Seawave bow is between 5 and 10 cm higher than on most of the inflatable kayaks. That, and the volume of the tip, means it can easily overcome waves, including rolling waves and small breaking waves that would overwhelm most inflatable touring kayaks. This volume is achieved thanks to three inner I-Beams glued into the extremity of the side tubes.
    ☑ Predestination for waves
A combination of the drop-stitch bottom and inflatable side tubes is essential not only for paddling with waves across but also for making safe landings on beaches in the event of rollers or shore-breaks.

    ☑ Water tightness
Coaming edges are horizontal and 4 cm wide on average, and the stiffening tube is reinforced. These coamings also allow the use of most “Big-Decks” type neoprene skirts, guaranteeing optimal water tightness.

☑ Paddling back into a shelter, even when one (or two!) side-tubes are punctured!
The volume of the “inflatable floor” alone of an inflated Seawave is av. 180 liters – if you remove the weight of the materials, this gives 175 kg of buoyancy for that floor only: enough to carry “out of the water” 2 paddlers weighing 87 kg each.
(For comparison, the average thickness of a two-seater “High-Pressure” I.K. Drop-stitch floor is 7 cm, which for an average width of 45 cm and an average length of the floor-piece of 3 m, gives a volume of 94 liters, i.e. taking into account the weight of the piece, a buoyancy of 90 kg… for 2 paddlers).
☑ Being able to paddle to a shelter, even when the floor of your Seawave is punctured!
This one will only work if you’re sailing with the deck.
Every regular user of inflatable kayaks has accidentally punctured the bottom of their boat or had it suddenly deflated due to a faulty inflation or overpressure valve.
With the Seawave, your deflated bottom will sink only 10 to 15 cm, depending on your weight… A position in which you can still paddle relatively well, or even effectively at normal height, if you fold the inflatable backrest over the seat and sit on it. Explanation: the four metal hoops/Arcs that hold the deck in place are extremely tight and keep the boat “under tension” to stretch the deck as far as possible. This has the effect of forcing the side flanges outwards, preventing the bottom from digging in too much, and thus allowing you to sit with enough height to paddle!
☑ Seawave overturned in the open sea – emptying, righting, and climbing in!
Righting and emptying: The Seawave – even when fitted with a deck – is designed so that a swimmer can right it using the lifeline running all around the model. When the boat is turned over, all the water on board is evacuated through the coamings, so your righted boat will be empty (except for a few centiliters) when you get back on board.
The volume and shape of the side tubes allow all the water on board to be evacuated when the boat rolls over.
However, learning and practicing this technique and its timing are essential to the success of the operation, as the movement must be slowed down at the beginning of the move to allow all the water to drain away.
Climbing back aboard the primary stability of the Seawave’s hull, the moderate height, shape, and robustness of the deck hoops (Arcs ?), and the presence of a judiciously placed lifeline, allow two types of ascent into the boat: without additional buoyancy from the stern, and with the help of a “Paddlefloat” from the side (learning and training in these two techniques will nevertheless be essential for successful operations in heavy seas).
