Why Buy From Light As Air Boats

Enjoy the ultimate combination of convenience and durability with this premium Gumotex SCOUT 14′7″ Inflatable Canoe.

Gumotex SCOUT 14′7″ Inflatable Canoe is the best companion for long expeditions. Convenient, large inner space, huge payload.  Self-bailing bottom roll-up sleeve. It is an inflatable canoe in the shape of a traditional CANADIAN CANOE, combining all the necessary ingredients for high-performance navigation, and safe practice in difficult conditions and white water.

For 70 years, Gumotex has been perfecting the art of crafting inflatable kayaks that are as gentle on nature as they are on paddlers. Their kayaks are not just a product. but a legacy of innovation and dedication to preserving the environment. Handcrafted with precision from natural rubber, each kayak is a testament to their commitment to sustainability. Gumotex Inflatable Kayaks are designed to be lightweight, making them easy to pack and carry, whether you're heading out for a weekend adventure or an extended expedition.

    Features

    ☑ NITRILON®
Material composition: high-strength PES fabric (1) with an outer synthetic rubber coating (2) and inner natural rubber blend coating (3). The material is highly resistant to abrasion, aging, and UV light. Tensile strength min.3 000/3 000 N (sample 8 × 2 in). Minimum weight 27.13 oz/yd².

    ☑ T-BONE REINFORCEMENTS
Metal reinforcements placed under the seats serve to shape and reinforce the bottom of the boat. Making the inflatable boat gain the performance characteristics of a hard-shell canoe.

    ☑ SELF-BAILING BOTTOM WITH A ROLL-TOP SEAL
Got water on deck? Thanks to the self-bailing floor design, water will drain away without effort. The rolling closure allows the floor to be sealed for calm water
    use.

    ☑ A turtled hull
A turtled hull enables the Scout to glide smoothly and progressively over waves or small rollers encountered in whitewater, without being stopped dead in its tracks, and without submersion.
The bottom profile of this model is not really horizontal, it’s in fact turtled all the way down. You’ll notice a slight curve with front and rear ends about 5 cm higher than the middle of the boat. As with the Gumotex kayak range, this trait is a prerequisite for whitewater and also wave sailing on lakes or at sea. This enables the Scout to glide smoothly and progressively over waves or small rollers encountered in whitewater, without being stopped dead in its tracks, and without submersion. This trait is determined by the assembly stripe between the boat´s bottom and sides, which is manually fixed during its manufacture, with a constraint that guarantees the maintenance of the longitudinal curve on both sides.

    ☑ A particularly voluminous bow

A particularly voluminous bow acts as an “elevator”, which has the direct effect of making the canoe rise instantaneously according to the curve constraint imposed by the hull line. The Scout´s bow height is 62 cm – the same height as that of most Open-Canoes designed for difficult whitewater conditions, and much higher than that of Sit-On-Top canoes on the market. The volume of the bow, calculated for the first 60 cm of the boat’s length, is 92 liters (or dm3 of air contained in all the inflatable compartments over this length). This creates an upward thrust equivalent to a force of around 90 kg when the bow is submerged, increasing its ability to overcome even large water obstacles (strong waves and rollers). The shape of the bow is achieved by three inner I-beams attached transversely inside the tips over a length of 53 cm. The volume of the tip thus obtained acts as an “elevator”, which has the direct effect of making the canoe rise instantaneously according to the curve constraint imposed by the hull line.

    ☑ Side walls ´´ 8

Doubled side tubes determine the Scout’s internal width, as well as its high load-bearing capacity. An internal partition “I-Beam” (marked red in the picture) divides the side tube compartment into two parts, forming an 8-shape much narrower and higher than a conventional inflatable side tube. This is what determines the Scout’s internal width, as well as its high load-bearing capacity. The other indirect effect of this process is providing the Scout with added rigidity, as an 8-shaped volume is much less sensitive to vertical torsion, which contributes to the boat’s ability to hold its line and to stay dry in the waves.

    ☑ Space and loading capacity
Space and loading capacity provides sufficient interior space for a two-week “autonomous” trip for 2 people (or 3 weeks and more in ultra-light mode). The Scout’s loading capacity is high: three adults, or even a family with two small children who can sit without problems on the middle seat, and still plenty of room at the ends for bulky luggage, bags, or waterproof containers! Note that self-draining is effective up to 300 kg (equipment weight + load + boat weight). Beyond that, some water will remain on the bottom!
